Life Members of AVS are esteemed individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of virology and the Society. This prestigious membership recognises their dedication to advancing virology research, fostering collaboration, and supporting the AVS community. As Life Members, they are honoured for their ongoing commitment and lasting impact on the discipline.

  • Prof Paul Young (2024)

    Prof Paul Young gained his PhD from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and joined the University of Queensland in 1991. His research has focused on understanding the molecular basis of virus induced disease, developing new and improved diagnostics as well as vaccine and therapeutic control strategies for a number of viral pathogens of both human and animal origin.

    In 2001 Prof Young organised what would become the first of the Australasian Virology Society meetings. He was the first President of the Society and held the positing from 2001 to 2011 and then again in 2012 to 2014.
